Funeral for Jonylah Watkins Nears As Police Get Closer To An Arrest

CHICAGO (CBS) -- Chicago Police Superintendent Garry McCarthy says they think they know what happened, they just need to prove it.

"We are going to close this case, there's no doubt in my mind," said McCarthy.

McCarthy says contrary to earlier reports, the baby's father was not changing the baby's diaper when the shooting happened.

"The baby was sitting in his lap in the driver's seat and the shooter came from the sidewalk over his right shoulder," said McCarthy.

McCarthy says 28-year Jonathon Watkins, who police believe was the intended target, has a significant criminal background but IS cooperating with police.

"At this point there's a lot more he can help us with but is cooperating with the investigation," said McCarthy

McCarthy says Watkins' wife was not shot while pregnant with Jonylah and the baby was only shot once.

Earlier reports said she had been shot multiple times. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. at New Beginnings Church.

Leak and Sons is picking up the tab for the funeral.
