Simeon's Jabari Parker Named Wootten Player Of The Year

(CBS) Fresh off his fourth high school basketball state title in as many years, Simeon standout Jabari Parker has been named the Morgan Wootten High School Player of the Year.

The announcement came Monday afternoon at the Ronald McDonald House in Chicago.

Parker was selected from a group of six finalists. In addition to basketball excellence, the award focuses on character, leadership, schoolwork and community involvement.

"It's big-time," the Duke-bound Parker said. "I always dreamed of being amongst the ranks of Chicago players, but now I can say it's nationwide. Hopefully I can take this and give myself a little more motivation."

Hamilton Southeastern's Taya Reimer was named the Wootten player of the year for girls.
