(CBS) The Cubs today made 11 cuts as the teams works to define a 25-man roster.

The Cubs elected to keep outfielder Dave Sappelt over Brian Bogusevic, who hit .410 in spring training.

Cubs manager Dale Sveum said Bogusevic had a great spring, but the job ultimately had to go to Sappelt.

“The writing on the way (was) ‘Sapp’ was going to be on the team,” Sveum told the Tribune. “He’s proven to me and the organization he can swing the bat, and he’s done a really nice job in centerfield.”

Cubs pitchers sent down include Chris Rusin, Drew Carpenter, Casey Coleman, Jaye Chapman, Jensen Lewis and Blake Parker.

Other prospects sent down include infielders Edwin Maysonet and Brad Nelson and outfielders Darnell McDonald and Johermyn Chavez.
