Boy, 14, Critically Hurt In Austin Shooting

(STMW) -- A 14-year-old boy was shot in the chest Monday evening in the West Side Austin neighborhood.

The shooting happened about 6:15 p.m. in the 5100 block of West North Avenue, police News Affairs Officer Joshua Purkiss said.

The boy, 14, was taken to John H. Stroger Jr. Hospital of Cook County in critical condition, Fire Media Affairs spokesman Juan Hernandez said.

He was shot in the chest, during a possible drive-by attack, Purkiss said.

No one is in custody as Area North detectives investigate.
