Reagan Tollway Reopens After Fatal Crash Near Aurora

AURORA, Ill. (CBS) -- A woman was killed Tuesday night, when a semi and an SUV collided on the Reagan Memorial Tollway near Aurora, shutting down the westbound lanes of the tollway for more than five hours.

The driver of a semi heading east on Interstate 88 lost control near Illinois Route 56, crossing the grassy center median, and striking a westbound SUV head-on, according to Illinois State Police.

Both vehicles caught fire in the wreck, and the truck ended up in a ditch on the right side of the westbound lanes.

The woman who was driving the SUV was killed in the crash. Her name was being withheld early Wednesday, while police notified her family.

No one else was seriously hurt in the crash.

Westbound lanes were closed for nearly six hours after the crash, while police investigated. The westbound lanes reopened shortly after 1 a.m.

The cause of the crash remained under investigation early Wednesday.
