Pair In Custody After Death Of 3-Year-Old Girl In Oak Forest

(STMW) -- Two people are in custody in connection with the Tuesday death of a 3-year-old girl in southwest suburban Oak Forest, police said.

The girl, Gina Pressley, died from head trauma, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's office. Her death was ruled a homicide.

Police said paramedics were called to a home in the 15300 block of Walnut Road in Oak Forest for a girl who was choking. Paramedics found Gina unresponsive and took her to Palos Community Hospital in Palos Heights, where she was pronounced dead about 11:30 p.m. Tuesday, police said.

Gina was living at the residence with a female guardian and a male associate, police said. Gina was in the protective custody of the Illinois Department of Children and Family Services and was staying at the residence, police said.

Oak Forest police and the South Suburban Major Crimes Task Force are conducting a joint investigation and have two people in custody, police said.

"When you see a child lose their life, it affects everyone," Oak Forest Police Chief Gregory Anderson said. "Not only the family, it affects the whole community. This is a horrific crime on the most innocent of victims."
