St. James Supporters Tweet Pope To Save Historic Church

CHICAGO (CBS) -- Parishioners at a Bronzeville church slated for demolition hope a media-savy pope will answer their prayers to save it, reports WBBM's Michele Fiore.

On the steps of St James at 2942 S. Wabash, leading to the now-locked doors, the faithful stand together and pray the rosary.

"I am a parishioner and I have been for about nine years and my grandmother was baptized there in 1897," said Eileen Quigley.

It's the third weekend that Eileen Quigley and others pray outside the church. In addition, they do something they've never done before, they send a tweet to Pope Francis.

"Well, you know, he set up a twitter account for a reason so we presume that it is to be heard," said Quigley.

Quigley encourages other supporters to do the same. Pope Francis' twitter handle is Pontifex.
