Palos Heights Music Teacher Accused Of Sex With Student

PALOS HEIGHTS, Ill. (CBS) -- A music teacher at a Christian school in southwest suburban Palos Heights has been arrested for allegedly having sex with an underage student.

Kenneth Martin, 34, was charged with aggravated criminal sexual abuse, according to Palos Heights police.

An investigation began a year ago, when two former students at Chicago Christian High School told police they had engaged in inappropriate relationships with Martin in 2009. His legal name was Kenneth Whitney at the time.

"It went from texts to phone calls to video chat and then eventually they met in person after he had left the school," said Deputy Police Chief Dave Delaney.

While police believe Martin had sex with two former students, he's only being charged in one case because the other victim is not cooperating, according to Delaney.

Detectives in Palos Heights received assistance from Orland Park police and the Chicago Regional Computer Forensics Laboratory during the investigation.

Police said there was no evidence of inappropriate relationships with any other victims.

Bond was set for Martin at $100,000.

Martin, of the 1500 block of West 83rd Place in Chicago, appeared in bond court at the Bridgeview Courthouse on Tuesday, and his bond was set at $100,000.
