1 Dead, 1 Wounded In South Chicago Shooting

CHICAGO (CBS) -- A 22-year-old man was killed and another was wounded in a Thursday afternoon shooting in the South Chicago neighborhood.

D'Angello Simmons, of the 8000 block of South Manistee Avenue, died from a gunshot wound to the chest just after 7 p.m. Thursday, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's office.

Police said Simmons and an 18-year-old man were walking in the 8000 block of South Manistee Avenue when an approaching gunman opened fire about 6:10 p.m.

Simmons was taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital with a gunshot wound to the chest, police said. He died less than an hour after he was shot.

The 18-year-old man was taken to South Shore Hospital in good condition with a gunshot wound to the ankle, police said.

In an apparently unrelated shooting, 33-year-old Dantario White, of the 8000 block of South Bishop Street, was shot to death several hours earlier on the same street, police said.

White was six miles away, in the 1400 block of West 80th Street, when he was slain in a drive-by shooting at about 2:40 p.m., police said.
