Tim Pernetti Out As Rutgers Athletic Director

(CBS) Rutgers athletic director Tim Pernetti has resigned, according to multiple reports.

The decision comes two days after he dismissed head men's basketball coach Mike Rice after video footage showed Rice verbally and physically abusing his players in practice.

Pernetti originally saw the video and investigated the issue in the November, but only decided to suspend Rice for three games, fine him $75,000 and order the coach to attend anger management classes.

Since Rice's firing Wednesday, the Rutgers community has called for Pernetti to be fired as well, with a number of faculty members at the university signing a petition.
