$500K Bond For Man Who Shot Police Officer With BB Gun

HOFFMAN ESTATES, Ill. (STMW) -- A northwest suburban man who fired a BB gun at police responding to a domestic incident at his home Friday is being held on a $500,000 bond.

Police responded about 9:20 p.m. to the 1800 block of Ashley Road in Hoffman Estates for a "family problem," Hoffman Estates police said in a statement.

When officers arrived, they found 47-year-old Mark Mlynarczyk walking toward a vehicle in the driveway carrying a "realistic-looking" BB gun, police said.

One of the officers ordered him to drop the weapon, but he raised the gun toward the officer, police said. The officer tried to disarm him with the Taser, but he stayed up and started shooting at the officers.

One officer was struck in the chest and hand, and taken to an area hospital, where he was treated and released, police said. Mlynarczyk was taken into custody.

Mlynarczyk faces one felony count of aggravated battery and one misdemeanor count of domestic battery, police said.

He was ordered held on a $500,000 bond Monday.
