Man Charged With Shooting Outside Wrigley Field
CHICAGO (CBS) -- A 26-year-old man has been charged with shooting another man, who refused to take part in an armed robbery, early Sunday outside Wrigley Field, police said.
The suspected shooter, who has distinctive facial tattoos — including a teardrop, a cross, and a White Sox logo — was arrested Monday in the Uptown neighborhood after police officers recognized him from the description given by the victim.
The shooting happened about 3:25 a.m. Sunday in the 1000 block of West Addison Street, police said. The victim, a 25-year-old man, told police that while he, 26-year-old Marcus Harris and another person, were walking down the street across from Wrigley Field, plans were made to rob someone.
But the victim refused to take part and warned a potential robbery victim, according to police. This apparently angered Harris, police said, and when the victim walked away, Harris shot him in the back.
The victim, who police said has gang affiliations, was taken in serious condition to Illinois Masonic Medical Center, where he remains Tuesday, police said.
Preliminary reports said the shooting occurred in the 3500 block of North Sheffield, outside a 7-Eleven across the street from Wrigley Field.
On Monday, police officers were in the 1000 block of West Argyle when they saw Harris, who matched the victim's description of the shooter, identifiable by his distinctive facial tattoos, and they took him into custody.
Harris, of the 1400 block of South Canal Street, was charged with aggravated battery/discharge of a firearm, obstructing identification, and attempted armed robbery with a firearm. He was expected to appear in bond court Tuesday.
