Cedar Lake Man Gets 80 Years For Murder, Arson

CROWN POINT, Ind. (STMW) -- The Cedar Lake man who stabbed his neighbor to death, then set fire to his home was sentenced to 80 years in prison Friday.

Anthony LaPorta, 24, broke into neighbor Adam Giordano's home on July 11, intent on stealing from the victim. When Giordano discovered LaPorta in his house, the assailant attacked him with a knife, killing the victim. LaPorta then set fire to the man's home.

LaPorta was sentenced to 62 years for murder and another 18 for arson. Lake Superior Court Judge Diane Ross Boswell ordered the terms to be served consecutively, as stated in the plea agreement. She also ordered that LaPorta obtain treatment for his drug and alcohol problems.
