Suspect Injured In Police-Involved Shooting
CHICAGO (CBS) -- One suspect is in the hospital and three more are on the run after two shootouts and a police chase involving an off-duty officer on the West Side.
The Chicago Police officer drove up on a shootout between two groups of men near Jackson and Leavitt, CBS 2's Marissa Bailey reports.
The off-duty officer did not confront the men, but instead followed them in a car while calling for backup.
At the same time, an Illinois State Police trooper was conducting a traffic stop a few blocks away.
At that point, the suspects' car stopped at a stop light near the trooper.
That's when the off-duty officer jumped out of his car and yelled for the men to get out of their vehicle.
Someone in the backseat of the car raised a gun at the officer and that's when the officer shot the suspect in the neck.
The state trooper followed the car and the men abandoned it about a mile away in the 300 block of South Maplewood, leaving their injured friend behind.
He was found in a nearby alley and taken into custody.
