Man Shot And Killed Inside Hyde Park Home

CHICAGO (CBS) -- A murder in Hyde Park, just blocks away from President Barack Obama's home.

It's the second time in just a matter of weeks. Police believe the victim probably know his killer who remains at large.

Just blocks from the security cordon around President Barack Obama's Kenwood home, a 29-yr old man was shot dead inside his home.

It happened in the same building where Yannick Lowery lives with his young son. Lowery never heard the shots, but was awakened by the aftermath.

"I heard someone screaming intensely. It was a woman. She was saying my baby," said Lowery.

Lowery called 911. He said it was clear something terrible had happened.

"By the screams, I could tell it was something devastating," said Lowery.

Lowery is sorry someone died, and concerned that he and his son were so close to the shooting.

"It's insane. I'm with a child. It's not safe where I live," said Lowery.

Cameron Parker also lives in the building and was awakened by sound of women screaming.

"I heard them yelling and screaming, 'He's dead, he's dead,'" said Cameron Parker.

Last night's murder marks the second time in less than a month that someone has been shot dead on the block. For Parker it's simply too close to home.

"What I do know is I'll be moving in two weeks," said Parker.

Two men showed up at the murder victim's home today, but left when CBS 2's Mike Puccinelli told them the apartment was sealed.
