Bicyclist Struck, Killed By Car On Near North Side

CHICAGO (STMW) -- The driver of a vehicle that fatally struck a bicyclist Wednesday night in the River North area remains in custody Thursday afternoon.

The 26-year-old bicyclist -- identified by the Cook County Medical Examiner's office as Robert Cann -- was riding south on North Larrabee Street when a southbound car struck him about 6:35 p.m. near North Clybourn Avenue, police said.

The 28-year-old motorist stayed on the scene and was taken into custody, police said. He remained in custody Thursday afternoon and charges are pending.

The police Major Accident Investigation Unit is investigating.
