Possibly Intoxicated Man Dies After Falling On Third Rail Of Red Line

CHICAGO (STMW) -- A California man died early Friday after he fell off the Addison Red Line train platform and came into contact with the third rail, authorities said.

Otis Carmichael, of West Covina, Calif., may have been intoxicated when he fell onto the third rail about 1:35 a.m., authorities said.

The 44-year-old was taken to Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center where he was declared dead about 2:15 a.m., police said.

Red Line service was temporarily suspended, but as of 3:10 a.m., the trains were running again, authorities said.

Carmichael's apparent cause of death was electrocution, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's office.
