Blackhawks Fans Observe Superstitious Rituals

(CBS) – A lot of people follow a strict regimen by eating a certain food, dressing a certain way, and so on.

CBS 2's Dana Kozlov reports that Blackhawks fans follow their own unique habits –- or superstitions -- in hopes of helping their team.

The quest for the Stanley Cup wouldn't be the same without the Blackhawks and their playoff beards.

For Carmen Caringella and wife, they begin game days by having Starbucks coffee at 10 a.m. sharp. He also plays with his son.

"That's our superstitions for the game," he says.

The Hawks are careful not to touch the conference championship trophy, and no one is allowed to touch the revered Blackhawk on the clubhouse floor.

"I have to wear my jersey, I have to get up at a certain time … I have to drink my favorite beer. It's everything," says Blakhawks fan Jason Skaggs.

Welcome to the world of sports superstitions -- things fans will and won't do to help bring the Blackhawks some luck.

Not everyone buys into it. But those that do are pretty confident they can make a game-day difference.
