8 Wounded In Shootings Since Monday Afternoon

CHICAGO (STMW) -- Eight people -- including a 17-year-old boy left critically wounded -- were shot Monday afternoon and evening throughout the city.

The most recent shooting happened about 9:55 p.m. in the Little Village neighborhood. One male was shot and suffered graze wounds to both legs, police said. Authorities had few details on the circumstances surrounding the shooting, but said he is being treated at Mount Sinai Hospital.

Twenty minutes before that, two men were hurt in a drive-by shooting in the South Side Kenwood neighborhood, police said. They were standing in the 7300 block of South Woodlawn Avenue when a light-colored sedan drove by and someone inside opened fire.

One man, 21, was shot in the right calf and is in "stable" condition at Northwestern Memorial Hospital, police said. Another man, 22, was shot in the right thigh, left ankle and the left hand. He is being treated at John H. Stroger Hospital of Cook County, also in "stable" condition.

Just before 8 p.m. in the Roseland neighborhood, a bullet hit an 18-year-old woman in the backside during a possible drive-by shooting in the 9700 block of South LaSalle Street, police said. She was taken to Stroger Hospital for treatment.

The teen who was critically wounded was shot about 7:45 p.m. in the 800 block of North Leamington Avenue, in the West Side Austin neighborhood, police and fire officials said.

He had been shot in the abdomen, police News Affairs Officer Veejay Zala said. Paramedics took him to Stroger Hospital, Fire Media Affairs spokesman Juan Hernandez said.

About 2:45 p.m., a separate shooting wounded another 17-year-old boy, this time in the 200 block of West 118th Street in the Pullman neighborhood on the Far South Side, police said.

He was taken in "stable" condition to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, Hernandez said.

About 1:30 p.m., paramedics found another man wounded at a South Side gas station, authorities said.

Police later learned the 19-year-old had been shot about half a mile away, in the Englewood neighborhood. He suffered a graze wound to the chest, and was treated in good condition at Saint Bernard Hospital and Health Centers, authorities said.

About 15 minutes before that, a 21-year-old man was shot in the 11000 block of South Ashland Avenue, in the Morgan Park neighborhood on the Far South Side, officials said.

He was taken to Stroger Hospital in "stable" condition, Hernandez said.

Police had no word of arrests Monday night as area detectives began their investigations.
