Car Crashes Into Couple's Bedroom In Sauk Village

SAUK VILLAGE, Ill. (CBS) -- Three people were injured early Tuesday, when a car slammed into a house in far south suburban Sauk Village.

WBBM Newsradio's Bernie Tafoya reports a Buick Century went into a bedroom in the 21400 block of Peterson Avenue as Chris Goffer and Nicole Powers were asleep in their bed. They had just moved into the townhome this month.

"I thought someone was breaking in the house," Goffer said.

A wheel actually ended up dangling over Goffer's head.

"I turned and saw the car just directly through this hole, and then the pillow that Chris' head was on, the tire was right over it," Powers said. "If it would have been … a couple more inches over, the car would have been directly on top of his head."

Goffer, 29, said the wheel was still spinning as it hung over him. He escaped with only a cut to the head.

Powers, 24, is five months pregnant. She was treated for a couple scratches, and her baby is okay.

The couple's 3-year-old son was sleeping upstairs at the time, and was not injured.

"We're definitely blessed. Got somebody that's looking over us," he said.

The bedroom has been boarded up.

Police said the 21-year-old driver who crashed into the home had lost control of his car while trying to make a turn at the T-intersection of Peterson and Jeffrey avenues, and would not be ticketed.
