Driver Killed In Rollover Crash Near Elburn

ELBURN, Ill. (STMW) -- A west suburban man died after he was ejected from a rollover crash Wednesday night near Elburn.

Mark Detoni, 54, did not appear to be wearing a seatbelt during the fatal crash, which happened about 9 p.m. on Route 47 near Rowe Road, Kane County Sheriff's office spokesman Lt. Patrick Gengler said.

He was driving the 2002 Chevrolet Suburban southbound on Route 47 "at a high rate of speed" when the vehicle crossed the center line, Gengler said.

The SUV then drifted onto the shoulder, then back onto the roadway and began to roll, Gengler said. The driver was ejected during the crash.

Detoni, of the 39W700 block of Gunpowder Lane in unincorporated St. Charles, was taken to Delnor Hospital in Geneva where he later died, Gengler said. No one else was inside the SUV

Authorities have not yet determined whether alcohol or drugs were factors in the wreck.

The crash closed Route 47 for two hours between Rowe Road and Kenmore Drive while authorities investigated.
