2 Dead, 24 Wounded In Weekend Shootings

CHICAGO (STMW) -- Two people were killed and at least 24 others have been wounded in shootings across the city since Friday night.

Jordan Jefferson, 24, of the 7500 block of South Yale Avenue, was killed in a shooting Sunday afternoon in the South Shore neighborhood, authorities said.

He was shot about 3:20 p.m. in the 2400 block of East 75th Street, Chicago Police News Affairs Officer Veejay Zala said.

At 7:40 a.m. Saturday, Shannon Ware, 27, was shot in the head and chest outside his home on 116th Street near State Street and died at the scene, according to police and the Cook County medical examiner's office.

He was standing in a group of people on the sidewalk when an unidentified man fired from across the street, police said. The shooter fled in a light-color sedan.

Among the 24 wounded are a woman and her 2-year-old son, who were shot during a drive-by shooting Sunday night in the West Englewood neighborhood. The 26-year-old woman and the boy were sitting in a parked van in the 1700 block of West 73rd when they were struck by bullets fired from a passing, dark-colored van about 6 p.m., police said.

The woman was shot in the right wrist. The 2-year-old suffered a gunshot wound to the leg. Both are listed in "stable" condition, police said. The two were initially taken to Holy Cross Hospital, but later transferred to Mount Sinai Hospital.

Nobody was in custody in the shootings. Area detectives were investigating.
