Police: Man Threw Woman Down Stairs, Causing Her To Lose Foot

CHICAGO (STMW) -- A 33-year-old man threw a woman down a flight of stairs on the South Side during a fight late Monday, causing her to lose her foot, police said after the man was arrested following a chase.

About 11:45 p.m. Monday, Mario Jackson got into an argument, which turned into a physical confrontation, with a 28-year-old woman in the 6600 block of South Lowe Avenue, police said Thursday.

He alledgedly threw the woman down a flight of stairs, causing severe injury, police said. The woman, who was taken to John H. Stroger Jr. Hospital of Cook County in serious condition, suffered a compound fracture to her ankle, which resulted in the amputation of her left foot, according to police.

Jackson, of the 6900 block of South Green Street, was apprehended after a brief foot pursuit by responding officers. He was charged with one count of aggravated battery resulting in great bodily harm, police said.

He is scheduled to appear for a bond hearing Thursday.
