Three Local Truckers Honored For Accident-Free Driving

DES PLAINES, Ill. (CBS) -- Three local truckers who've been at it a while recently celebrated big milestones any motorist would love to celebrate.

WBBM Newsradio's Bernie Tafoya reports Con-way Freight truck drivers Tom Syme and Joe Lombardi have surpassed 2 million miles driven without an accident.

"I like my job. I like what I do. I like the people I work with," Lombardi said.

Truckers Honored For Safe Driving

Both have been driving 25 years without a crash, driving five days a week with a trailer or two in tow along Chicago's busy trucking routes.

"The hardest thing is just watching out for the people, because you never know what they're going to do," Lombardi said.

Fellow trucker Bob Craig reached the 1 million-mile accident-free club after 27 years with Con-way.

Besides gifts and a party, the three were given their own parking spots for their cars at the company's Des Plaines service center.
