College Football Playoff To Use New Trophy
(CBS) The iconic crystal football awarded to the winner of the BCS National Championship game will make its final appearance this season.
As the college football postseason prepares for a massive overhaul with the implementation of a four-team playoff during the 2014-15 season, College Football Playoff officials say they'll roll out new hardware.
"We're going to have a new trophy," CFP executive director Bill Hancock told CBSSports.com.
The move, according to the report, is prompted by a desire from the CFP to distance itself from the BCS.
The current trophy, which costs $30,000, has been award to the winner of the BCS National Championship since 1986.
