Report: Red Sox, Cardinals In Mix For Peavy

(CBS) According to a report from CBSSports.com's Jon Heyman, the Red Sox and Cardinals are emerging as two favorites to land veteran hurler Jake Peavy.

Heyman reports the Diamondbacks also have interest in the White Sox's right-hander. With Matt Garza traded to the Rangers, Peavy appears to be the top starting pitcher available.

The 32-year-old is in the first year of a two-year, $29 million deal. Peavy has started 12 games this season after recovering from a fractured left rib, going 7-4 with a 4.19 ERA.

The Dodgers, Rockies, Nationals, Orioles, Pirates and Giants are among other teams also looking to bolster their pitching rotations before the July 31 trade deadline.
