Police: 1 Dead, 1 Wounded In Englewood Shooting

CHICAGO (STMW) -- One man was killed and another wounded in an Englewood neighborhood shooting early Wednesday, police said.

The men were in the 5800 block of South Sangamon Street when they were shot about 1:30 a.m., police News Affairs Officer Ron Gaines said, citing preliminary findings.

The deceased man, who is believed to have been in his 20s or 30s, was found lifeless with a gunshot wound to the head, police said. He was taken to John H. Stroger Jr. Hospital of Cook County to have a time of death pronounced, police said.

The Cook County Medical Examiner's office could not independently confirm that the man had, in fact, died.

The other wounded man, who is 28, was shot in the backside. He was listed in "stable" condition at an area hospital, police said.

No one was in custody as Area South detectives investigated.
