Youth Group Claims They Were Bitten By Bed Bugs, Ants At Hotel

CHICAGO (CBS) -- A South Side church youth group is outraged over what happened during a trip to Kentucky this past week.

Group Bitten By Bed Bugs, Ants

The drum and bugle corps at Bishop Paul Hall's Christ Universal Church went to the Cincinnati area to perform last week, staying four nights at the Ramada in Florence, Ky.

Early on, they started to notice lesions on the children.

"They had big bites and welts on their heads, necks, legs, everything," said Carolyn Cole, an adult who went on the trip.

She says at least eight children were bitten badly.

She says adults were bitten, too.

"Some had fire ants. Some had bedbugs. I had fire ants," Cole said.

"And this is ridiculous. Then you talk to this lady who is the owner. She was belligerent, rude, obnoxious. She didn't care. She wasn't going to give us our money back. She just didn't give a hoot."

Paul Hall says the group was supposed to stay a fifth night at the hotel but had to cancel because the bug situation was so bad.

The owner of the Ramada Florence, Sara Sohi, says, "We take these complaints very seriously, and we're still looking into it. The hotel management inspected the rooms and did not see insect activity. We have scheduled a professional pest control company."
