SUV Crashes Into Sandwich Shop In Garfield Ridge

CHICAGO (CBS) -- An SUV crashed into a Southwest Side sandwich shop before it opened Tuesday morning in the Garfield Ridge neighborhood.

Only the senior citizen who was driving the Ford Expedition suffered any injuries, according to Fire Department spokesman Will Knight.

Ahmad Hadj, the owner of Midway Subs at Archer and Nagle avenues, said the woman who was driving the SUV claimed the gas pedal got stuck.

SUV Crashes Into Sandwich Shop

The SUV jumped the parking barrier, and smashed through the sandwich shop's double-glass doors, spraying broken glass 20 feet into the shop.

Hadj's business had been closed at the time.

"Thank God nobody got killed or crushed," he said.

Hadj said he believes he might lose a few days business of business as a result of the damage.

There was also some damage to the glass door of the neighboring tanning salon.

The Fire Department said the woman driving the SUV was taken MacNeal Hospital in Berwyn in fair condition.
