Emanuel Launches Investigation Of Ex-Comptroller Amer Ahmad

Mayor Emanuel says he first found out Amer Ahmad had been indicted in an alleged Ohio kickback scheme via news reports.

Ahmad has resigned his job as city comptroller two weeks earlier.

"I then said to Steve Patton, the corporate council for the City of Chicago, 'I want you to reach out to Joe Ferguson the IG [Inspector General] and to conduct a more thorough, comprehensive and complete investigation and not just rely on the preliminary to make sure that the taxpayers' integrity and the taxpayers' trust has not been violated," said Emanuel.

Two former federal prosecutors working for Emanuel looked into what had been just allegations against Ahmad before he got the comptroller's job but found nothing conclusive. The Mayor says he doesn't blame them.
