Teen Shot And Killed On South Side

CHICAGO (STMW) -- A 17-year-old boy was fatally shot while riding in a vehicle on the South Side early Tuesday, authorities said.

Pierce Curry was in the backseat of the vehicle when gunfire erupted from a car that pulled alongside them as they passed through 6200 block of South State Street at 1:30 a.m., authorities said.

Curry, of the 9900 block of South Hoxie Avenue in the South Deering neighborhood, died after a single bullet struck him in the head, authorities said. He was the only person in the vehicle who was shot.

The teen was taken to Saint Bernard Hospital where doctors said he died at 1:58 a.m., according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's office.

No one was in custody as Area South detectives investigated.
