HAMMOND, Ind. (CBS) -- An Indiana teen died Sunday after he was struck by a vehicle in Hammond.

Joshua Spencer, 13, was struck a vehicle at Calumet Avenue and 171st Street in Hammond, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's office.

Spencer, of the 7100 block of Tapper Avenue in Hammond, died at Comer Children's Hospital at 10:58 p.m. Sunday, according to the medical examiner's office.

The teenage boy was on a bicycle when witnesses say he darted into traffic on Calumet Avenue at 12:25 p.m. Sunday, Hammond police Lt. Richard Hoyda said.

An 83-year-old woman driving a 2000 Kia south on Calumet Avenue could not avoid striking him, Hoyda said.

She was not cited.
