Head Lice Are More Resilient This Year: Expert
Lice Are Worse Than Ever
(CBS) -- Going back to school usually means kids are exposed to head lice -- and this year may be especially bad.
WBBM's Steve Miller reports.
What may be different about this year is a lot of kids showed evidence of head lice well before the start of school.
"I'm busy now. I would say today is my first day where I've really had a breather for a while," says Carrie Madej, owner of Nit Free Noggins, which treats head lice cases.
Not only did the lice peak earlier, she says, but they're heartier than ever.
"The bugs are growing stronger. They're immune to a lot of the products that are meant to kill them," Madej says.
Her company uses heated air to kill head lice.
A spokeswoman for the Chicago Public Schools system says CPS has only been notified of a small outbreak, at Coonley Elementary in North Center.
