Police Still Searching For Suspect Who Carjacked Off-Duty Cop

CHICAGO (CBS) -- It's been almost a week, but Chicago Police still don't know who beat an off-duty police sergeant, and carjacked the officer's sport-utility vehicle -- escaping with his gun, star, and bulletproof vest.

Five men stood in the way of the officer last Friday night, took him out of the SUV, beat him, and took the 2006 Infiniti QX56. Police News Affairs Officer Daniel O'Brien said the sergeant's SUV was recovered several blocks from the spot where the carjacking occurred, near 70th Street and East End Avenue.

The officer's cap and baton turned up in the Lincoln Park area, near Diversey Parkway and Sheridan Road. O'Brien said the star, gun, and vest remain missing.

The sergeant refused hospital treatment for minor scratches and bruises.

Area South detectives are reviewing security camera video.
