January Trial Set In Aurora Hammer Attack

ST. CHARLES, Ill. (STMW) -- A west suburban Aurora man accused of hitting his sleeping wife with a hammer in 2012 is scheduled to stand trial early next year, the Beacon-News is reporting.

Camilo Rivera, 45, remains held in Kane County Jail on $750,000 bail, and charged with attempted murder. Police previously said Rivera attacked his wife inside the family home on Clark Street in August 2012 while some of the couples' children were there.

Three of the children were awakened by their mother's screams and were able to stop the attack, police said at the time of Rivera's arrest.

Rivera is scheduled to appear for a status hearing on Sept. 20. A judge set his trial for Jan. 6, court documents state.
