New iPhones Draw Big Crowd To Mag Mile Apple Store

CHICAGO (CBS) -- The latest models of the iPhone 5 brought out long lines of customers at the Apple store on Michigan Avenue on Friday, but many of them were likely to go home empty-handed.

"I traded my iPhone 5 in today to get the new 5s," one man said.

WBBM Newsradio's Dave Berner reports the line wrapped around the corner of Michigan and Huron Street, with approximately 200 people waiting to get a new iPhone 5s or 5c.

Julian was the very first person in line.

"This is like my third year doing this. It's been a tradition in my friend group. We've been doing this for like five years," he said.

Apple was not saying how many new iPhones were available at the Michigan Avenue store, but it was likely many people in line would be out of luck, as the company has limited numbers available on the first day of sales.

At least one customer waiting outside the Michigan Avenue store was offering to sell his spot in line for $300.

A 5s costs between $200 and $400, depending on the amount of storage it has. The 5c costs between $100 and $200.

Many people in line have been waiting for two days or more.

"I got here on Wednesday afternoon," one man said.

Those in line said they've been taking turns going to the restroom, or picking up food. Some even get pizza delivered while they wait.
