Delivery Driver Shot In South Deering

A chicken delivery man was shot while dropping off an order of food in the South Deering neighborhood Sunday night.

The 39-year-old man was making a delivery at a home near East 99th Street and South Paxton Avenue when a gunman emerged from a gangway and opened fire about 10:35 p.m., police said.

Bullets struck the man in the hip, seriously injuring him, police said.

He was taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital where his condition stabilized, said police News Affairs Officer Ron Gaines.

No one was in custody as Area South detectives investigated. Robbery is not believed to be a motive, police said.
