State Police are conducting an all-day distracted driving enforcement detail on the Kennedy, ticketing people who text while driving.
State law makes it illegal to text, email or use the internet while driving without using a hands-free device.
State Senator John Mulroe has sponsored hands-free legislation. He addressed the issue on the Senate Democrats' website.
"We have gotten into the habit of using our phones. We are not trying to take away the phones but we just want you to use your phones more responsibly," said Mulroe.
The detail will cover the entire length of the Kennedy from downtown to O'Hare.
