Late Thursday afternoon, an alert Vernon Hills police officer found the 2007 white Saturn belonging to the missing husband and father.

Hours later a tow truck brought the car out of the parking lot. It’s been identified as Steward’s. The vehicle was taken to an impound area where evidence technicians will go over it carefully.

“At this time we’ve not searched the vehicle yet,” Lake County State’s Attorney Mike Nerheim told reporters. “But in looking inside the vehicle from the outside we did not see anything that would indicate foul play.”

Nerheim said authorities had not looked in the trunk before the car was towed.

“Not knowing where he is – it’s just worrisome,” longtime friend Christine Hoverka said.
