Three Firefighters Hurt In Palos Park

PALOS PARK, Ill. (CBS) -- Three firefighters in Palos Park were recovering Monday morning, after being hurt while battling a house fire overnight.

WBBM Newsradio's Veronica Carter reports crews responded around 10:30 p.m. to a fire in the roof of a home at 132nd Street and 84th Court.

Palos Fire Protection District Capt. Jim Graben said three firefighters were hit by falling boards when the ceiling collapsed after they went inside the home to determine if anyone was inside.

"No civilians, but we weren't sure at the time," he said.

Graben said the firefighters' injuries were minor, and they were treated and released.

He said the department takes it seriously anytime one of their own is hurt.

"It is a danger we face," Graben said.

The cause of the fire had not been determined as of Monday morning. The house suffered major damage.

No one else was hurt.
