2 Kids Critically Injured In Joliet Crash

JOLIET, Ill. (STMW) -- Two young children were critically injured in a crash in southwest suburban Joliet Sunday, the Herald News is reporting.

Around 10:30 a.m. the children were on their way to a pumpkin patch in a minivan heading south on Grove Road, according to reports.

Police Chief Brian Benton said "a 2013 pickup truck appeared to disregard the stop sign" at Caton Farm Road and struck the minivan.

The adults in both vehicles were not seriously injured, but the children suffered "life-threatening" injuries, Benton said.

The children were taken to Presence Saint Joseph Medical Center and later airlifted to Hope Children's Hospital in Oak Lawn, according to reports.

No charges were filed at the crash scene but Benton said Sunday night the incident was "an active investigation."
