Man Killed In Chatham Shooting

CHICAGO (STMW) -- A man was killed in a shooting Monday afternoon in the South Side Chatham neighborhood.

Police responding to a call of shots fired about 3:15 p.m. found the man on the sidewalk in the 8300 block of South Ellis Avenue, police News Affairs Officer Amina Greer said.

He had been shot in the back, Greer said.

The 23-year-old was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn where he died an hour later, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's office. His name was not released pending notification of relatives.

Area South detectives are investigating, but no one is in custody.
