Grassroots Organization Calls On CTA To Scrap Ventra

CHICAGO (CBS) -- A grassroots riders group wants the CTA to scrap the Ventra system, reports WBBM's John Cody.

Group Calls On CTA To Scrap Ventra

A co-founder of Citizens Taking Action, Kevin Peterson, says his members are telling him stories of unexplained charges and deductions at Ventra machines and at the bus fare boxes.

"Because the bus is crowded they have to be standing near the machine and the thing went through all of their cards in their wallet," said Peterson.

Peterson says both his disabled mother and wife have yet to receive their cards.

And Peterson says the idea of using up 30 expensive day-time cell minutes just to be hung up on by CTA is inexcusable. He says his Citizens Taking Action group believes the Ventra card system needs to be scrapped or send back to the software shop for some major rework.
