Gunfire Reported Near NIU Campus
CHICAGO (CBS) -- Police are responding to a fight and gunfire at a hotel in DeKalb.
The incident happened at the Travel Inn near the Northern Illinois University campus.
Police had the area blocked off and were searching for possible suspects, a witness at a nearby business told CBS 2.
Other witnesses told the Northern Star newspaper that they heard shots fired.
Police told the paper that one person was hit with a gun during a fight. Nobody was hit by gunfire, but one shot was fired.
NIU police told CBS 2 there was no immediate threat to the campus community and police do not think anyone was shot.
The paper reports that police recently arrested a man at the hotel and charged him with operating a meth lab.
