Store Employee Shoots Robber

(STMW) -- Police have arrested a suspected robber who was shot by an employee of the store he was trying to steal from Monday afternoon in the West Ridge neighborhood on the North Side.

The attempted robbery happened about 5:40 p.m. at a store in the 2900 block of West Devon Avenue, police said.

An employee shot the person trying to rob the store, but the suspect fled the scene, police said.

The suspected male robber was taken into custody Monday night after he walked into an Indiana hospital to seek treatment for his gunshot wound, police said. Charges were pending as he was en route to Chicago early Tuesday.

Area North detectives are investigating.
