Man Charged With Threatening Cook County Sheriff Tom Dart

(STMW) --A west suburban man who has been accused of cyber stalking and sending death threats to Cook County Sheriff Tom Dart has been ordered held on $75,000 bond.

Steven Cleary, 49, of Franklin Park, was charged Friday with threatening a public official and cyber stalking, both felonies, according to the sheriff's office.

Cleary is accused of sending between 50 and 60 threatening emails to Dart, according to sheriff's office spokesman Ben Breit said, who said Dart does not know Cleary.

Cleary allegedly began sending death threat emails to Dart in early May, the sheriff's office said. Recently, Cleary began sending specific threats to Dart's life.

He is being held in lieu of $75,000 bond in the Cook County Jail, according to the sheriff's office.

It's unclear why Cleary was threatening Dart.
