OSWEGO, Ill. (STMW) -- No one was home when a fire Monday morning killed several cats and did $100,000 to a home in southwest suburban Oswego.

Someone called police around 9:39 a.m. to report smoke coming out of the two-story home on the 500 block of Lakeview Drive, the Beacon-News is reporting.

Firefighters responded and found smoke and fire on the home's first floor. Investigators are currently investigating the cause of the fire, which resulted in $100,000 in damages.

Firefighters said that there was major smoke and water damage inside the home, and that several cats had passed away as a result of the fire.

A dog, who was inside when the fire sparked was saved, firefighters said.

Firefighters from the Bristol Kendall Fire Protection District, the Montgomery-Countryside Fire Protection District and Plainfield all responded to the fire.
