Man Charged In Fatal Shooting At Birthday Party In Zion

ZION, Ill. (STMW) -- A Michigan man has been charged with murder for allegedly shooting a man to death during a birthday party at a north suburban home early Saturday.

Terrance Scott, 25, and Prentiss Carter, 42, were at a small birthday party in the 1800 block of Carmel Boulevard in Zion, where five adults were drinking alcohol and playing cards, according to a statement from Zion police.

Police said "most" of the adults were intoxicated, while four children were asleep in the home.

At some point, and for an unknown reason, Scott and Carter got into an argument, and Scott pulled a gun and shot Carter in the head about 1:20 a.m., police said.

Scott, from Ypsilanti, Mich., was taken into custody as he was leaving the area, police said. The murder weapon has not been found.

He has been charged with two counts of first-degree murder and one count of being a fugitive from justice, police said. He was wanted on a Wisconsin Department of Corrections warrant.

Scott is a documented gang member, according to police, who said he has at least 11 prior arrests, at least four of those for weapons violations.
