Teen Critically Wounded In Englewood Shooting

CHICAGO (STMW) -- A 17-year-old boy was shot and critically wounded Monday night in the Englewood neighborhood on the South Side.

The teenager was shot in the chest about 11:20 p.m. while walking on the sidewalk in the 700 block of West 60th Place, said police News Affairs Officer Hector Alfaro.

Two male suspects approached the boy on foot and fired shots, police said. The teen then ran for several blocks.

An acquaintance of his drove him in critical condition to Saint Bernard Hospital and Health Care Center, and he was later transferred to John H. Stroger Jr. Hospital of Cook County, Alfaro said.

Officers were seen putting up caution tape and searching nearby Edmonds Park.

No one was in custody early Tuesday as Area South detectives investigated.
