1 Child Killed, 3 Others Hurt In South Suburban Crash

OLYMPIA FIELDS, Ill. (STMW) -- One child was killed and three others were injured Wednesday afternoon when a vehicle they were travelling in crashed into a tree in south suburban Olympia Fields.

The crash occurred about 12:45 p.m. in the 600 block of Brookwood Terrace, according to statement from Olympia Fields police. Authorities believe the driver may have been speeding at the time of the crash. All four were less than 16 years old and residents of Olympia Fields, police said.

One of the children was taken to Franciscan St. James Health in Chicago Heights, where they were later pronounced dead, police said. The Cook County Medical Examiner's office confirmed the death, but declined to release further details Wednesday night pending notification of family.

The three others were initially taken to Franciscan St. James Health in Olympia Fields and Advocate South Suburban Hospital in Hazel Crest, but were all later taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, police said.

Olympia Fields police are investigating.
